Royal Crown Derby Scottish Terrier. Please contact me via my listing if there's anything you'd like to discuss. Superb and subtle decorative work depicting the wiry hair under its ultramarine blue surface. Ultramarine body with a small overcoat in dark burgundy decorated with harebell (Scottish bluebell). Examples of Dunbartonshire tartan are to be seen in the collar and under the body.
Very lavishly adorned with 22-carat gold gilding. A very popular terrier with its origins in Skye and Aberdeen. Breeding over the years has changed its shape to be almost unrecognisable from 17th-century paintings. Very independent and rugged breed with a wiry outer coat and a soft dense undercoat. The first Earl of Dumbarton nicknamed the breed "the diehard" because of their bravery.
It was also the inspiration for nicknaming his regiment, The Royal Scots, Dumbarton's Diehard. Amusingly, the under base is in the shape of a bone! One of the first pieces made in 2004 (retired in 2008).
Modelled by Donald Brindley and decorated by Jane James.
